Volunteer duties and responsibilities
On Sunday mornings, Hyde Park’s Open Arms Ministry provides a nourishing meal and an invitation to attend Sunday School and worship to about 200 folks from the community. The clothing ministry provides much needed clothing, shoes, toiletries every first Sunday of the month, haircuts the third Sunday of the month, mail services, resume assistance, Tax Filing Assistance, Florida Access assistance, respect, love and a warm smile.
Open Arms was established in 2004 to Make God’s Love Real to disenfranchised and marginalized men and women in the Hyde Park area. The goal is to see all people as children of God and to treat them with dignity and respect. Each week there are opportunities to serve in food preparation, serving, or clean up, as well as helping with specialized services such as haircutting or food stamp renewals. You don't need to be a member of the church to serve. Our partnerships have expanded to include the Tampa Elks Club, Balance Tampa Bay, students from the University of Tampa, Girl Scouts, and other local school and community groups.
