“I am now more willing to be fully authentic with my congregation, which feels like a healthier way to be in ministry…I feel better equipped for ministry for the long haul – sustainable ministry from the heart.”

(Member of a previous Circle of Trust® series for young United Methodist pastors)

We are excited to announce a new opportunity for clergy sponsored by the Center for Courage and Renewal! Please consider this experience for yourself or pass on to a clergy person you love and respect.

Flourishing in Ministry is an exciting, new Circle of Trust® retreat series for pastors and faith leaders. The program includes five different cohort series, each in a unique part of the country. Each cohort series will consist of three retreats (one 4-day event and two 3-day events) over a 13-month period, as well as small group peer learning calls in between retreats. We are expecting these series to fill early, so early applications are encouraged.

What is Flourishing in Ministry?

  • This is an invitation to step away from daily work to explore one’s inner life, to reconnect with one’s calling and passion, and to join a global movement that believes that leadership begins from the heart of who one is.
  • This is a different kind of leader development program. There are no assessments, instruments, or strategic planning workshops. Instead, the focus will be on building trustworthy relationships, with oneself and the people in the circle, through a process that is intentionally ecumenical, cross cultural and multi-aged.
  • This is a chance to be part of a group that includes both emerging (those in their first 10-15 years of ministry) and experienced leaders, coming together to cultivate a trustworthy experience of community. While we expect that the groups will have more emerging leaders, we welcome applications from those in any season of ministry.

This experience is underwritten by the Lilly Endowment’s Thriving in Ministry grant program. In addition, individual scholarships will be available through a simple application process.

Rather than helping pastoral leaders build one-on-one relationships with experienced mentors, role models, and exemplars who have a slim chance of sharing the particulars of their ministry context, we will provide an experience/model of mutual mentoring based on our Circle of Trust® approach.

Flourishing in Ministry those who are either an ordained/authorized minister/faith leaders in a formal leadership roles.
