Tipping, Taxing or Tithing: Preaching Good News about Stewardship and Generosity
An Institute of Preaching Online Workshop
April 27-28, 2021
Preachers talk about the most sensitive topics from the pulpit. It’s part of our calling, after all. Yet, when that sensitive topic is money, we find ourselves confronting our own anxieties, uncertainties and questions in ways we may not with other topics. There is a reason that studies have found that, on average, most of us preach about money once a year!
But there is good news about money, stewardship and generosity to be proclaimed to God’s people. Join us for a two-day online workshop, sponsored by the Institute of Preaching. We will explore together how we can preach that good news with greater confidence, clarity and commitment.
Guiding our conversations will be Jim Harnish, retired United Methodist pastor and author of Earn, Save, Give: Wesley’s Simple Rules for Money; Meredith McNabb, a United Methodist pastor serving at the Lake Institute on Faith & Giving; and Nathan Kirkpatrick, an Episcopal priest and managing director of Alban at Duke Divinity School.
Tuesday, April 27 from 9:30 a.m. - noon ET, optional online office hour at 4 p.m. ET
