This Week’s Storyteller is…

Nettie Cribb, Lakewood UMC, Jacksonville
I read about the CareFest event and want to share a ministry we have at our church. A member of my Sunday school class whose husband died two years ago and is now legally blind, lives alone, 93 years young, and very alert. She is still able to cook for herself and care for herself. Her hearing is impaired, and she is physically unstable. However, she refuses to leave her two cats and her home of about 50 years. She has no relatives in town. We had about three people in our church who had volunteered to transport members who might need a ride to the doctor. I called 13 people in our church and 13 people said “yes” immediately to help her. We have someone signed up for each week of the year to take her to the grocery store, bank, dentist, doctor, etc.  It takes maybe half a day each week. With 13 people involved, we are signed on for 4 times a year. It has been amazing how these people have been the hands and feet of Jesus as they have weeded her flower beds, fixed her light switch, her telephone, and other things like reading her mail for her, along with other personal items. They have gone far above and beyond what I asked of them for the last two years. If one is unable to go on their week, they just call one of the others and switch weeks with them. She has been blessed, and each one has told me how they have been blessed through this ministry. I have the schedule ready for next year. God is so good as He cares for His own through loving Christians. Nettie Cribb, Stephen Ministry Leader, Lakewood United Methodist, Jacksonville
