Meet the New District Missional Initiatives Specialist

The South East District is excited to announce that beginning July 1, the Rev. Michelle Shrader will join us to serve as the District Missional Initiatives Specialist. Michelle comes to us from serving three years in Cape Town, South Africa where she has worked closely with peace and reconciliation ministries as well as missional initiatives for the episcopal office.

Michelle began her journey in ministry as an active lay person at Hyde Park UMC in Tampa. She would ultimately leave her profession as a speech therapist to attend Duke Divinity School where she received an award for outstanding student in the mission of the church. It is during that time that she began a commitment to learning more about racial reconciliation through the faith community. Later, she would put her learnings to work in both Mississippi and North Carolina where she served in pastoral appointments focusing on reconciliation and missions.

Michelle will serve part-time in this capacity with the district while also serving Killian Pines UMC as pastor. Michelle will be a gift to our district and the missional initiatives our churches are fostering. Her gifts of preaching, leadership development and multicultural ministry will serve her well at Killian Pines and throughout the South East District.

Missional Vital Signs

Report Due the 10th of Every Month

The purpose of the Missional Vital Signs is to help church leaders increase their congregation’s faithfulness to our biblical mission, “Making disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world.” By focusing attention on the five core practices involved in cultivating mature followers of Jesus Christ, Missional Vital Signs helps leaders remain true to the Great Commission (Matthew 28:18-20). Fruitfulness in fulfilling our biblical mission. By tracking one measurement for each practice, leaders gain a sense of whether their congregation is becoming more or less effective in carrying out the Great Commission. Discipleship: Learn about North Naples process for making disciples, new members, and continuous spiritual formation. This church has a great way of putting systems in place and wants to share these with you. This is truly a teaching church!
