SED June 2021 Newsletter

June, 2021

Dear South East District Friends,

Warm summer wishes to each of you!

I have enjoyed so much seeing many of your faces on ZOOM during our district trainings that ran over two weeks in late April and early May. These were great opportunities to learn together about the important operational teams in the life of the church. If you were unable to attend, most trainings have a Power Point that can be shared and/or a recording of the session. Reach out to the district office for those.

I have also enjoyed being out and about in the district more in the last month than in all of the last year! It is good to be visiting your worship services, presiding over your special church conferences, and leading trainings in your churches. Keep up the good work and continue to find creative and safe ways for your church and community to be together.

During the month of June there will be annual conference (June 11-12, virtual, though several of us will be present for an in-person licensing, commissioning, and ordination service on June 12), a cabinet retreat, several farewell worship services with pastors who are moving, a trip to Warren W. Willis camp, celebrating the end of school, and much more.

I also want to share that I will be taking a renewal leave this summer for several weeks between July 6-August 13. My daughter and I plan to visit family and do some traveling out west that was postponed due to the pandemic. We are fully vaccinated and feel safe doing this, and hope to spend lots of time outdoors! Norma will be in the office and there will be other superintendents on call for me, as well as assistance from our resources in Lakeland. I covet your prayers for our travel and for my ability to take a deep breath or two in order to return to our good work together this fall.

I am wishing each of you a restful summer of health, spiritual growth, and re-engaging safely with fellow brothers and sisters. May God bless us and our global community in this journey.

Grace and peace,

Cynthia D. Weems

Bishop Carter Announces Full Time Appointment Changes

Bishop Ken Carter and the appointive cabinet of The Florida Conference of The United Methodist Church, in   consultation with the clergy and authorized lay leaders of the local churches, announce full-time   appointment changes, to take effect July 1, 2021. This act of ministry is in fulfillment of paragraphs 425-429   of the 2016 Book of Discipline. Click HERE for the complete list, organized by districts.
