Cranberry Salad

A family favorite, especially at Christmas, my grandmother's recipe.

Cranberry Salad


2 cups fresh cranberries
1 cup water
1 cup sugar
1 small package cherry or strawberry Jello
1 cup boiling water
1/2 cup chopped pecans
1/2 cup diced apples
1/2 cup minced celery
1/2 cup drained crushed pineapple

Add the sugar to the 1 cup of water, bring to a boil, stir to dissolve sugar. Add cranberries and cook for 5 minutes. Remove from heat and cool.
Dissolve Jello in boiling water, add to cranberry mixture, blending well. Cool until it begins to thicken.
Add last four ingredients. Put in an 8 X 8 dish. Chill until firm.

This can be served with mayonnaise or plain.
