Apple Bavarian Torte

A great fall dessert that isn't too heavy.

Apple Bavarian Torte


1/2 cup butter
1/3 cup white sugar
1/4 tsp vanilla
1 cup flour
8 oz cream cheese
1/4 cup white sugar
1 egg
1/2 tsp vanilla
6 apples--peeled, cored, sliced
1/3 cup white sugar
1/2 tsp cinnamon
1/4 cup sliced almonds

Preheat oven to 450 degrees. Stir together butter, white sugar, 1/4 tsp vanilla and flour. Press into bottom of a 9-inch springform pan to make crust. Blend the cream cheese and 1/4 cup sugar. Beat in the egg and 1/2 tsp vanilla. Pour over the crust. Toss apples with 1/3 cup sugar and cinnamon. Arrange on top of the filling and crust. Bake 10 minutes at 450 degrees. Reduce heat to 400 degrees, bake 25 minutes. Sprinkle almonds on top, bake until lightly browned.
