These "ball" shaped cookies could only be bought in bakeries in the 1950's. My friends family owned a bakery and he kindly gave me the recipe.
GOBS
Preheat oven to 450.
Ingredients:
2 cups sugar - 1/2 cup Crisco or margarine (1 stick) - 2 eggs - 1 cup sour milk - 1 cup boiling water - 1 tsp vanilla - 4 cups flour - 2 tsp baking soda - 1/2 tsp
baking powder - 1/2 tsp salt - 1/2 cup cocoa
Directions:
Cream together: sugar, margarine, eggs, sour milk, boiling water and vanilla.
Sift together: flour, baking soda, baking powder, salt and cocoa.
Drop on ungreased cookie sheet. Bake at 450 for 5 minutes.
FILLING:
5 tbs flour - 1 cup milk. Cook until thick and then cool
CREAM:
1 cup powdered sugar - 1 cup butter (2 sticks) - 1/4 tsp salt - 1 tsp vanilla
Add the filling mixture to the cream mixture. Then fill the GOBS.
