Red Velvet Cake

This is an old recipe, but a good one for Valentine's Day, Christmas, or when grandkids come. It makes a 9x13 sheet cake, so travels better than a four layer cake.

Red Velvet Cake

1/2 c butter
2 eggs
1-1/2 c sugar
2 T cocoa
1/2 tsp salt
2-1/4 c flour
2 oz red food coloring
1 c buttermilk
1 tsp baking soda
1 T apple cider vinegar
1 T vanilla

Cream butter and sugar. Add eggs, coloring and cocoa. Add flour and salt, and then add alternately the buttermilk. Mix soda and vinegar and fold into cake batter. Pour into 9x13 inch pan. Bake 350 degrees for 35+ minutes. Let cool. Frost.
