These were a favorite of my grandmother. She made them every Christmas!
2 cups toasted sponge cake crumbs
2 tablespoons cocoa
1 cup powdered sugar
1/8 teaspoon salt
1 cup finely chopped nuts
1 1/4 tablespoon white Karo syrup
1/4 cup rum or brandy
Mix in a bowl nuts, crumbs, cocoa, powdered sugar, salt, and nuts.
Add liquid ingredients slowly to crumbs.When ingredients will hold together stop adding liquid.
Roll into 1 inch balls. Roll in powdered sugar. Set ball aside for at least 12 hours to ripen.
