Pharmacy Benefits

All health insurance plans include prescription drug coverage. Prescription drugs are divided into three levels or tiers based on UHC's Prescription Drug List (PDL). You pay a different co-payment for each tier. The Choice Plus plan also has a prescription deductible of $50 per individual and $100 per family. The Options PPO plan currently has this deductible as well. These pharmacy deductibles are separate from the deductible on Choice Plus or Options PPO medical plans. The PDL consists of medications that have been reviewed by physicians and pharmacists and includes a wide selection of FDA-approved generic and brand-name drugs. For more information or to get a copy of the PDL, visit

 Specialty Pharmacy Program

Specialty medications are critical to improving the health and lives of individuals and are also some of the most expensive medications being used today.  Specialty medications are typically more than $250 per prescription, in an injectable or oral form, treat rare or complex diseases and typically require additional clinical support  for better health outcomes.  By using a specialty pharmacy we can make these medications accessible and affordable.

A specialty pharmacy provides a higher level of customized care for specialty medications than traditional pharmacies.   Specialty pharmacists and nurses have additional clinical expertise on the specialty medications and these unusual and complex diseases.

United Healthcare’s in-network specialty pharmacy, Prescription Solutions, is your connection to quality, convenient specialty pharmaceuticals.  Prescription Solutions provides exceptional services for you with efficient pharmacy dispensing and timely delivery.  Shipments are mailed in confidential, temperature-sensitive packaging and can be shipped to any location at no addition charge.  Prescription Solutions provide medication-related supplies, such as syringes, needles and disposal containers free of charge.

After receiving a prescription for a specialty medication, call Prescription Solutions Specialty Pharmacy at 888-739-5820.  Representatives are available 5:00 a.m. through 7:00 p.m.  On-call pharmacists are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.  Prescriptions Solutions will begin the process of working with you and your health care provider to fill your specialty prescription and support your on-going medication needs.  Specialty Pharmacy will only dispense a 30-day supply due to the expenses and complexity of these medications.
