Upper Room to launch General Conference prayer community

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Upper Room, a global ministry of The United Methodist Church, has developed a prayer guide, "60 Days of Prayer," to encourage United Methodists everywhere to join a community praying daily for God's will to prevail as delegates from all over the world gather May 10-20 in Portland, Oregon, for the quadrennial General Conference. The guide is available free for download or can be delivered as a series of daily devotions by email, starting March 31. Click here to find options for obtaining the guide.

The Upper Room website describes the prayer ministry, part of a series of prayer-focused events leading up to General Conference, as "an unprecedented concert of prayer, seeking God’s will" for General Conference decisions expected to shape the future of The United Methodist Church. The Upper Room, by invitation from the General Conference worship team and the Council of Bishops, has created resources for the prayer movement, including a daily prayer book, prayer vigil guides and a supporting website with prayer wall. Click here or visit to read about various aspects of the General Conference 2016 prayer community.

“I’m personally convinced that the one thing every United Methodist can do to influence the outcome of General Conference is to pray,” said Rev. Tom Albin, dean of The Upper Room Chapel. “When we pray, we can be convinced that God will hear and respond.”
