Early bird registration deadline approaches for Lake Junaluska Winter Youth Retreats

LAKE JUNALUSKA, N.C. - Registration is open for Lake Junaluska’s six Winter Youth Retreats, and youth groups that register by the early bird deadline on Tuesday, Nov. 5, will get free winter hats for their groups.

In addition, early bird registrants will be extended “cancellation forgiveness” up to 15 days before the retreat in the event they are unable to participate.

Each year, middle and high school youth from many denominations travel to Lake Junaluska for unforgettable retreats that feature evening sessions with dynamic speakers, powerful worship and group games. During the day, youth groups choose their own activities – skiing, doing mission work or other North Carolina mountain adventures.

The Rev. Mitzi Johnson, director of programming at Lake Junaluska, said she is excited about this year’s retreat theme from Micah 6:8 – “Do Justice. Love Kindness. Walk Humbly.”
“Asked how God’s covenant community should worship, the prophet Micah talked of doing justice, loving kindness and walking humbly with God,” said Johnson. “This winter, groups will explore how all of life can be an act of worship through which we grow in our love of God and one another.”

Each Lake Junaluska Winter Youth Retreat features a speaker with deep roots in youth ministry. At January retreats, students will hear from Charlie Conder, an Orange Student Specialist who coaches youth pastors; Mark Oestreicher, a youth ministry coach with The Youth Cartel; or Emily Roach, a leader in youth ministry who has worked with Carolina Cross Connection, Conference Council on Youth Ministries, Chrysalis, Emmaus and Young Life.

Guest speakers for February events will be Tracy Radosevic, an internationally-acclaimed storyteller, educator and retreat facilitator; the Rev. Chalice Overy, a pastor experienced in campus ministry, global missions and facilitating conferences and retreats; or the Rev. Andy Lambert, who earned a reputation as “the funniest man in youth ministry” as he proclaimed the Gospel at comedy clubs, churches and colleges across the country. “Our speakers this year truly have a gift for sharing the Word with youth and inspiring them to grow in their faith,” said Wilson Booth, youth ministry specialist at Lake Junaluska. They will be joined by worship bands Jay Burnam, Jimmy Atkins and the Light ‘Em Ups or Cameron Moore. Lake Junaluska’s three-night events also offer special entertainment such as a DJ, comedian or illusionist. Pricing for two-night events begins at just $171 per person and three-night events start at $241 per
person. Prices are based on lodging with four people to a room.
