October 2017 District Newsletter

October Message from the District Office

“And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. ” (Mark 16:15)

As we are in the midst of being displaced from the District Office, we are embracing the fact that Jesus did not minister inside the four walls of a church. In fact, he encouraged others to take the glory of God outside the four walls of the church. So while we are working from CrossRoad Church, our respective homes, Panera and anywhere else that may have Internet, we are still humbled by the call to serve you from the “District Office.” While we may not physically be there every day, we are with you. Calls are being forwarded to Pam's cell phone and emails are being responded to as quickly as possible. We have even purchased a portable printer which allows us to print, scan and email from anywhere that has Wi-Fi. The only thing we cannot do is receive faxes.

Irma may have challenged us slightly to think outside of the box of traditional administration; but, Jesus continues to inspire us to continue to build relationships with all of you, in order to be a channel of nurturing and encouragement. We are blessed to have His inspiration and will continue to do his work (displaced or not) with a smile and much grace.

Charge Conference - Clergy Compensation Forms Due Today!

All clergy compensation forms are due to the District Office today. Feel free to scan and email (flumc-ne@flumc.org), or drop them off to our office (put them in the mail slot located in the front door.) Due to flooding, our fax machine is not available at this time.

Please do your best to get these forms in (they do not need to be signed) so Pam does not have to chase them down. :)

Thank you in advance for adhering to this deadline!

Vitality Metrics & Missional Vital Signs

How are you doing with the submission of Vitality Metrics and Missional Vital Signs? We have had three months to work out some of the glitches. In October, we have a contract person coming to work with us a few times a month to help with this project and a few other things. So don't be surprised to receive a call from someone other than Pam or Jay. We will introduce them once they are officially on board.

HELPFUL HINTS

  • The deadline to upload is the 10th of each month for the previous month. So all September data is due by October 10th. Help us reach 100% participation from all churches in the district.
  • We figured out that the Missional Vital Signs data cannot be input for that month until the first day of the next month. We appreciate those folks that reached out to us to let us know there was a challenge with the process.
  • You can access the Missional Vital Signs information here - http://tools.flumc.org/yearly.asp.
  • You can access the Vitality Metrics information here - http://www.flumc.org/vitality.
  • You can track your weekly data on this Monthly Data Sheet.

Easter Pilgrimage to Italy with Bishop Carter

Led by Bishop Carter, travelers will visit Venice, Assisi, Siena, Florence and Rome while studying the Gospel of Mark and the legacy of Peter during April 3-12, 2018.

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
I am excited about our spiritual journey to Italy in 2018. As we visit the stunning cities of Venice, Assisi, Siena, Florence and Rome, we will be immersed in the rich traditions of the Christian faith. We will learn more about the gospel of Mark in Venice and the legacy of Peter; we will read the dialogues of Catherine of Sienna and the meditations of Dante, and we will reflect on the renewing vision given to Francis of Assisi. In Rome, as we visit the Sistine Chapel, we will consider the legacies of the most recent Popes, especially John XXIII, Pope John Paul II and Pope Francis. And in each setting, we will be inspired by the world’s great art and architecture. I hope you will join friends from across Florida on this Easter pilgrimage.

The Peace of the Lord,
Bishop Kenneth H. Carter, Jr.
