Dear North East District Family,
Later this month, we’ll host our annual Super-Charged Conference event and we’re looking forward to welcoming you with great hospitality to celebrate the past year’s ministry accomplishments, do the business of the church, and to look forward to 2020.
I’m most excited to share with you that this coming year we’ll be sharing a new resource tool for your faith community to help it grow in its vitality. Tony Morgan and The Unstuck Group (www.theunstuckgroup.com) have been at work for years to help churches that are “stuck” to get unstuck and become vital again. Tony will be leading our Equip 2020 event in February and will focus on the vitality metric of average worship attendance as it is, by far, the metric with which most of our churches struggle. In the language of The Unstuck Group, he’ll help us discover how we can “widen the front door” so churches engage with more people each week and “close the back door” so faith communities don’t lose new people once they start attending. Several churches in our Annual Conference have hired The Unstuck Group to do consultations for their faith communities, including one in our district. At Super-Charged you will hear that church’s story of transformation. I pray it will be inspiring for you!
Additionally, the district is purchasing a one-year subscription for every faith community to go through the Unstuck Group’s Online Leadership Course. This is a significant investment about which our Operations Team is very enthusiastic. Our invitation to you is that each church’s leadership team will go through the course starting in February/March of next year and focus on ministry areas that need help as well as strengths that can be leveraged. We will be rolling all of this out at Super-Charged so you can begin to prepare now and take full advantage of the 12 months the course will be offered to you for free.
Later this month we will give each lay leader or church council chair a copy of Tony Morgan’s excellent book, The Unstuck Church: Equipping Churches to Experience Sustained Health. This book lays out some of the principles of which Tony will speak about in February. It is also a good foundation for the online course. As you read it, I ask you to consider making it a book that your leadership team reads together in the coming months.

The SEJ Clergywomens Conference is being hosted in Jacksonville at the Hyatt Regency Hotel, 225 E Coastline Drive, Jacksonville, FL 32202 on November 18-21, 2019. The conference planners are looking for volunteers to be part of this conference. If you are interested in volunteering, please read more about the opportunities that are available.
Classes will run on Saturday, October 12, 2019 (9 a.m. - 5 p.m. - check-in begins at 8:30 a.m.) and Sunday, October 13, 2019 (3 - 5:30 p.m.) with lunch on Saturday and snacks provided.

The Young Adult Missional Movement (YAMM) is seeking more support to expand the mission service program. Currently YAMM has seven houses in four districts but plans to expand into every district as support and recruiting allows.
Churches, small groups, or individuals can add the YAMM program to their annual mission giving and help engage more young adults in more communities. Whether it's $1,000 annually or a love offering, all you support will make a difference. Utilities, transportation, health care costs, etc are all on the rise. Gifts can be mailed to the conference office, designated for YAMM or made securely online.
YAMM's year-long mission program no longer receives apportionment funding after the initial three year start up period. Since it was formed, there have been 75 alumni who served in 30 teams over the past five years.
The Annual Clergy Mates Retreat will be held November 7-9, 2019 at Riverside Camp and Retreat Center, 7305 FL-78, Fort Denaud, FL 33935 (Lodging is dorm-style bunkbeds.) For more information and to register, click here.
Highlands UMC is looking for an outstanding individual for the position of Office Administrator at our exciting mission-oriented church. This person will be responsible for effective organization and management of our office and will serve as our primary contact for the local, district and conference level. The ideal candidate will have a positive attitude and three years general office experience and proficiency with Microsoft Office programs (Publisher, Word, Excel and PowerPoint). Experience with graphic design and social media is a plus. This person should also be able to work alone and as part of our friendly team. The position is salaried part-time with 16 hours per week. We welcome all Finance Committee Team Members and Trustees Committee Team Members to a Finance/Trustees Training. This training will involve all aspects of Finance and Trustees.
This training will take place on the following dates and locations:

The district superintendent will conduct SPRC Training on December 10 @ Garden City UMC, 3057 Dunn Avenue, Jacksonville & December 12, 2018 @ First UMC, 205 N Pine St, Bunnell from 7-9 p.m. Both trainings will take place in the sanctuary.
We ask that all SPRC chairs/committee members attend one of these trainings, especially if they will be new to their position in January 2020. As a reminder to you, S/PPRCs ARE NOT authorized to take a vote on whether their pastor should remain or move unless you specifically receive permission from the district superintendent. Clergy are also welcome to attend.
