The first of a series of specialized training workshops for school-church partners, “Our Kids Training Plus,” has been postponed as churches continue to respond to those in recovery from Hurricane Irma. The event, initially scheduled Oct. 7, 2017, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at St. Luke’s United Methodist Church in Orlando, will be rescheduled at a later date.
“The disruption caused by Hurricane Irma and the many responses to places of need by those involved in leadership,” said Clarke Campbell-Evans, director of Missional Engagement, “caused the leadership team to push pause on this event as churches continue to respond to the needs of the most vulnerable in Florida.”
Campbell-Evans said that once rescheduling plans develop, notifications will be sent to those who have already registered for the training. Additional postings will be provided on www.flumc.org as more information becomes available.
The training workshop supporting school-church partnerships is one of several key initiatives of the Florida Conference supported by Bishop Ken Carter. He established a conference-level task force of pastors, church staff members and laity from existing school-church partners located throughout the state.
Organizers encourage churches to send teams to the first training session. Admission is $25 per person and $75 maximum per church. Equitable compensation congregations may pay $25 for an unlimited number of attendees.
