Beginning January 1, 2022, Rev. Dr. Michael Beck will lead Fresh Expressions Florida as its newly appointed director.

Dr. Beck will also continue his roles as pastor of Wildwood UMC and St. Mark’s, Ocala as well as the North Central district cultivator of Fresh Expressions.

“Rev. Beck is a creative and visionary leader with a unique ability to see church differently,” said Bishop Ken Carter. “He has been instrumental in the launch of Fresh Expressions Florida and will help us realize our goal of 500 fresh expressions of church in our Conference by 2025.”

The Fresh Expressions movement started in the Florida Conference in April 2014 when Bishop Carter challenged Florida Methodists to experiment with new ways to reach people of all ages, interests, ethnicities, and worship-style preferences. Since then, 300 fresh expressions of church have developed across the Conference ranging from coffeehouse meet-ups to prayer yoga and many creative concepts in between.

“Helping the people of God discover new ways to be the church with those currently outside the church is one of the great passions of my life,” said Dr. Beck. “I’m humbled to build upon the sure foundation of so many great leaders to now direct this work for our Conference.”
