A statement on the assassination of Haitian President Jovenel Moïse
Yesterday, the assassination of Haitian President Jovenel Moïse occurred. His wife, Martine Moïse, was also injured in the attack. Haiti has faced many hardships over the years. Our brothers and sisters in Haiti have struggled with COVID-19, inadequate health care, and the uncertainty of food. The political upheaval experienced by communities in Haiti has continued to increase.
In the next few days as we reflect on the recent news, may we find ways to partner with the people of Haiti. The Florida Haiti Covenant stands together with those in Haiti. We will continue to seek out ways to work together to make our world a safer place.
We pray for the people to Haiti. We pray for peace amid uncertainty for Haiti. We pray for stability. We pray for new leaders. We pray for action that leads to healing and well-being for all of God’s children in Haiti. Together, we call for peace, order, and unity. Our prayer and our hope is that light shines in the darkness, and the darkness shall not overcome it. We continue to pray for the family and friends of President Moïse and First Lady Moïse. Lord, in Your mercy, hear our prayers! For comfort, healing and order! May your light shine into the darkness.
