Bishop Carter, Governor Scott call churches to prayer
July 19, 2013
LAKELAND -- Bishop Ken Carter participated in a conference call with Gov. Rick Scott on Friday, July 19.
Governor Scott has issued a proclamation
that calls for unity in the midst of the tragic death of Trayvon Martin and for prayer on Sunday, July 21, for the Martin and George Zimmerman families.
Bishop Carter expressed his commitment to pray for the governor and is supportive of this call for unity in Florida through prayer. Bishop Carter also calls United Methodists in the Florida Conference to participate in the ongoing conversation around racial justice and to participate as Christians in the personal disciplines and creation of laws that protect life, ensure fairness and preserve dignity for all people.
The bishop has outlined his thoughts in a commentary for United Methodist News Service. To read the post, click here.
