Disaster Recovery staying on top of storm damage needs
LAKELAND -- With media reports and dramatic photos of widespread storm damage in the Panhandle and some states to the north, Florida Conference members may be wondering if their neighbors are in need of volunteers from Florida United Methodist churches.
Pam Garrison, disaster response coordinator for the Florida Conference, said Thursday she has been on conference calls with the United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR) and Florida Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster (VOAD). At this time, requests from the storm-damaged areas are being addressed by churches closer to the affected communities and UMCOR, and there is no need to mobilize efforts in the Florida Conference. Keep checking the Disaster Recovery webpage for updates.
No Florida Conference churches had reported storm damage as of Thursday morning.
