The Rev. Scott Harris, pastor of Asbury United Methodist Church in Maitland, surveys more than 2,000 items of canned and dried food collected to “Bridge the Hunger Gap” during the month of October.

MAITLAND — The congregation of Asbury United Methodist Church in Maitland responded to the urgent need for donations at neighboring food banks by building a “Bridge Over the Hunger Gap” in its sanctuary.

During the month of October, parishioners collected canned and dried food items and used them to build the bridge.

With each member bringing even a few items, the efforts of all resulted in more than 2,000 items being donated to local food banks, providing assistance to those in need during the current financial crisis.
