An e-Review Commentary
By Bishop Timothy W. Whitaker**

During the 2007 Florida Annual Conference Event, the Rev. Bill Barnes of St. Luke’s United Methodist Church in Orlando reported on the Bishop’s Capital Campaign.

Bill is co-chairman of the Bishop’s Capital Campaign Commission along with Mrs. Linda Wells of Trinity United Methodist Church in Tallahassee.

This campaign is unique in both Florida and The United Methodist Church. It is designed like a campaign run by colleges and hospitals and other institutions, based upon personal gifts, pledges and deferred gifts. The Florida United Methodist Foundation is providing the professional expertise for the campaign.

The overall purpose of the campaign is to strengthen the common ministry of United Methodists at the beginning of the 21st century by making capital improvements or creating endowments to address unmet needs.

I am convinced that we have a great opportunity to strengthen our common ministry in ways that will change the lives of thousands of people in different ways.

The theme of the campaign is “Together! Bringing Hope, Changing Lives.” The key to our success is the word “Together!” The only way we shall succeed is by everyone doing his or her part in a great common effort together. I believe pastors and lay persons will want to do their part as they see the opportunity we have to better fulfill the mission of our church in Florida.
