Pews to Streets contest details and rules; opens Oct. 1
“Pews to Streets,” the Florida Conference’s second Facebook contest, includes both photo and video entries this year. Entrants’ photos or videos could win summer camp scholarships for their church youth.
“We are aligning this year’s photo/video contest with the 2014 Annual Conference theme, which is about the mission of God,” said Gretchen Hastings, director of connectional relations for the conference. “We want churches to share what they are doing to fulfill God’s dream for the world and how they are in mission with God.”
Videos or photos can be about an international or domestic mission—from rebuilding earthquake-ravaged neighborhoods in Haiti to building a playground here in Florida for neighborhood children who really need a place to play.
“We want to see how you and your church make it out of the pews and into the streets,” Hastings said.
She suggested some ideas to get the imagination rolling, including how you or your church has experienced God in mission, been a part of the mission of God or seen the mission of God in our world.

Photographers and videographers will submit entries through the conference Facebook contest app, which will go live Oct. 1 on our Facebook page (http://www.facebook.com/FloridaUMC). Videographers and photographers 12 and older are eligible.
Contestants and the winners must be members of or regularly attend a Florida Conference United Methodist Church. There will be first, second and third place winners determined by the number of votes or “likes” for the entry.
The conference will donate to the winners’ churches summer scholarships at the Warren Willis Camp:
- First place: three Warren Willis Camp scholarships;
- Second place: two scholarships;
- Third place: one scholarship.
