Recipe contest: get cooking and fight hunger
September 21, 2015
The Florida Conference kicks off a recipe contest this September, the month designated as Hunger Action Month by Feeding America
. And, it will run through October, which is World Hunger Action Month, a focus for Stop Hunger Now

Instead of awarding a prize for an individual recipe, the contest winners will be the churches who submit the highest number of recipes. Those churches with the most participation will receive funding for a hunger prevention ministry of their choice.
“The contest opens on Sept. 21, and we encourage our churches to mobilize their cooks, chefs, grillers and BBQ teams,” said Gretchen Hastings, conference director of Connectional Relations. “Prizes will be awarded to the churches who have the most participation.
“The prizes will be donations to support a church’s hunger prevention ministry, such as a summer feeding program, community garden, food bank, soup kitchen, a Kids Pack Program, or any other community hunger prevention ministry sponsored by or supported by the church.” Prizes could also help fund a church’s Stop Hunger Now food packaging event, she added.
There will be prizes awarded to the top three church contributors. First prize is $1,000, second is $750 and third is $500.
Recipe categories include appetizers, beverages, breakfast and brunch, dessert, main dish, salads, sandwiches and pizza, side dishes and soup, stew & chili.
