Marcy Preaching Fellowship

The Marcy Preaching Fellowship is a cooperative effort between the Candler School of Theology at Emory University and the Florida Conference of The United Methodist Church.  Its purpose is to help good preachers become excellent preachers.

Each spring the Bishop’s Cabinet nominates six clergy and two alternate clergy to be participants in that year’s Marcy Preaching Fellowship.  To be eligible the clergy must be serving as a pastor and are either an elder, associate member or a licensed local pastor who has completed the five-year Course of Study.

The participants are led in a one-week intensive program of instruction, reflection, practice and evaluation on the topic of proclaiming God’s word through preaching.  This process is led by Dr. Thomas G. Long, Bandy Professor of Preaching at Candler.  He is assisted by a specialist in the area of speech.  The program takes place on the campus of Candler.

The cost of the program is provided through a generous gift from the Susan H and W. H. Marcy Trust Fund.  The cost to participants is limited to travel to and from Atlanta.

If you are interested in being considered as a participant in this program you should notify your district superintendent before March 1, or contact the Office of Clergy Excellence.
