Mission in Guyana from Essequibo to Lake Capoey

In July, a team of five representatives from First UMC of Fort Lauderdale spent a week in Guyana doing what Senior Pastor Jill Auman called “renewing our commitment” to the Ruimveldt Children’s Home and Care Center.

The home was founded by Bill and Diana Upchurch, two missionaries from the church, in the early 1990s to minister to orphaned children suffering from AIDS or having special needs. The pilgrimage back there has become an annual project for First UMC.

This year, the visitors from Florida brought supplies of medicine, clothing, shoes and other necessities and distributed them at Ruimveldt and other orphanages. They visited schools, where they offered worship, communion and messages of support and hope.
