Hermine and Matthew Recovery

Hermine and Matthew: Hurricane Recovery Continues

Please Help!

FOR MOST OF US, Hurricane Hermine* and Hurricane Matthew** are a distant memory - if we think about or remember them at all. But hundreds of households on the east and west coasts of Florida are still struggling to repair their homes. They have little or no resources and many have lost hope of ever living in a safe and secure home again - without damage, without mold. And the 2017 hurricane season is upon us.

Volunteer wor/k teams are needed to assist with home repairs. It might be new flooring, replacing drywall, minor roof repairs or even replacing roofs. Can't work but want to help? Please consider doing a fund raiser to help purchase supplies and materials for the work. Provide financial support for a team from your church or another church coming to help. Pray. Pray that God will bring the teams, the materials, and most of all the hope that comes from neighbors helping neighbors. Who knows? You may be the one who shows them Jesus.

*Hurricane Hermine was a Category 1 that went up the west coast of Florida 8/31/16 - 9/11/16. We were on the worst side of the storm experiencing damaging winds and high tide surge. Hermine eventually made landfall at the Big Bend area and did considerable damage to Tallahassee with downed trees and some places without electricity for 2 weeks.
**Hurricane Matthew came up the east coast of Florida one month later (9/28/16 - 10/10/16) as a Category 4. Thankfully, it wobbles slightly east on its path so Florida did not experience a direct hit; however, Matthew did severe damage in Florida, Georgia and South Carolina before making landfall in North Carolina.

Money is always a helpful donation. It can be used to buy  exactly what is needed -- and often in the local community contributing to the economic health and recovery of the community after the disaster. Your gifts can be given to the Conference Disaster Recovery Ministry or to UMCOR:

You can also send your donations to the Conference Office with the appropriate notation in the memo line

Special thanks to our partners who are providing financial resources to assist us in helping survivors recover from Hurricane Hermine:
