Fall Lay Servant Training October 12-13, 2019

**Please note that we are changing the schedule this time around from our traditional Friday/Saturday training to a new Saturday/Sunday training. We are hoping that this will make it easier for folks who do not like to drive at night or deal with rush hour traffic on Friday nights.
Classes will run on Saturday, October 12, 2019 (9 a.m. - 5 p.m. - check-in begins at 8:30 a.m.) and Sunday, October 13, 2019 (3 - 5:30 p.m.) with lunch on Saturday and snacks provided. The classes will be held at Wesconnett UMC | 5630 Wesconnett Road | Jacksonville, FL 32244. Class sizes are limited to 15 students per class. Be sure to register early. NO walk-in registrations please. If you want to register by check, please call Pam at the District Office at 904-396-3026 and she will help you get registered.
This training is open to all. If you are seeking to receive certification of re-certification credits you must attend all 10 hours of the training. Registration will be open through October 7, 2019.
We are offering the following class selections (please note that you must purchase your own book in advance**):
- Basic Lay Servant Class with Rev. David Preston of Wesconnett UMC - This basic course includes a study of what it means to be God’s called people and how we may be at work for God in our own communities. The course provides learning opportunities in three areas of service for lay speakers: leading, caring and communicating. - Aging and Ministry in the 21st Century with Ruth Woo of First UMC, Jacksonville (Advanced Lay Servant) This class is a practical guide for building ministry for older adults. Required book – Aging and Ministry in the 21st Century By Richard H. Gentzler, Jr. – ISBN #978-0-88177-540-2**
- Lay Servants Lead in Conflict Resolution with Rev. Debbie McLeod of Mandarin UMC (Advanced Lay Servant) Every church deals with conflict, both healthy and unhealthy, and lay servants can be equipped and empowered to help lead through those times of conflict as a time of transformation. Required book – The Spirit and Art of Conflict Transformation By Thomas Porter – ISBN #978-0-8358-1026-1**
- Leading Missional Small Groups with Camille Wilson and Rev. Jeff St. Clair, both from Longleaf Church and Rev. Will Wold of Mandarin UMC (Advanced Lay Servant) This course teaches the Wesleyan way to form missional communities and congregations. It is based on the conviction that just as holiness of heart leads to holiness of life, it is communities of holy love that participate in God's mission in the world.
