The United Methodist Church is a connectional church. This is one of the most compelling aspects of our church, yet one of the hardest to understand and define. Our connection is a multidimensional web of relationships that enables us to create, transform and sustain mission and ministry. It ties us to one another within the church and links us to the communities and the world we serve.
The ministry of the director of connectional ministries is to interpret and serve as champion of the connection within an annual conference. My role is to help conference clergy and laity see the larger picture of the church, then to help them move into ministry in that larger world. An important part of that task is serving as liaison with the jurisdictional and general church. I am, by virtue of my position, part of the Southeastern Jurisdiction Administrative Council (SEJ-CCA), but my relationship with the connection reaches to all levels of the church.
