Message from the District Superintendent
As we enter into Advent Season - we are in a time of expectant waiting and preparation for the celebration of the coming of Jesus at Christmas. But as we wait and prepare, we are reminded that this is also a time of giving. As you pray about your end of year giving, please consider supporting our campus ministry, Campus to City Wesley, in its year end giving campaign to raise $15,000 to deepen its impact at the University of North Florida, Jacksonville University, and Flagler College. You can donate directly on their website - http://campustocity.org/yeg16/.
Jay's December message focuses around Christmas (he is a big fan!) Please take a few minutes to read his message and share it with others in your congregation.
Just a reminder that our District Office will be closed on December 23, 26 and also on January 2. In addition, the office will have limited hours during the last two weeks of December. Please call before stopping by to make sure we are here.
We thank everyone for their hard work during this charge conference season.
We are excited to announce that we will be doing something different with charge conference in 2017. We will have ONE charge conference for all of our faith communities in the district. We’re calling the event Super-Charged!
Other districts in other annual conferences have followed this model with success. It will allow all of us to come together, to worship, learn, lead, and do some business. Don’t worry about the particulars of the event just yet, but please save the date November 11, 2017, from 9am to 12pm at CrossRoad UMC. This is a mandatory event for all churches to participate with no exceptions. (If there are separate issues needing a charge conference, we’ll work with those, too.)
The good news: this means that the amount of paperwork you’ll have to send to the district office in advance will be drastically reduced and it won’t be due until much later! Thanks in advance for keeping an open mind and being joyfully flexible!
Notes of Appreciation for Jim Young
Just a reminder that we are still collecting send notes of appreciation and encouragement for Jim Young. If you have something to include for Jim, please email Pam Mullay in the district office no later than December 1, 2016.
FLSA Overtime Rule Delayed
There is an injunction against the new FLSA law and the new overtime rule is now delayed. The Conference is advising churches to move forward with the planning to implement the ruling. It’s best to have processes in place – especially time tracking - for the date when the new (maybe modified) FLSA ruling will be effective. For more information, please check out our website.
Messages for the District
We receive many requests from folks within the district and the conference asking us to reach out to our district about a certain event or ministry. In an effort to be able to give you as much information in a limited space, we have put their messages into PDF documents or included a direct link to their website for you to easily review and share with others in your churches.
