“Throughout their careers, clergy shall engage in continuing education for ministry, professional development and spiritual formation and growth in order to lead the church in fulfilling the mission of making disciples for Jesus Christ…” (¶351.1, 2008 Book of Discipline)
In the text, Resurrecting Excellence: Shaping Faithful Christian Ministry, co-authors L. Gregory Jones and Kevin R. Armstrong contend that
“learning is a lifelong vocation: one that begins with learning to feel and think and act as a disciple of Jesus Christ, that continues through formal educative formation…and then continues with learning through ministry as one preaches, celebrates the sacraments, leads, and equips others to learn and grow in their own vocations as disciples…’learning’ involves the shaping of our hearts as well as our minds and hands and feet, the cultivation of a way of life that is affective, cognitive, disciplined, and integrally connected to action.” (pp. 112-113)
The Office of Clergy Excellence will provide the clergy of the Florida Conference opportunities to be engaged in lifelong learning that will enable persons to grow in their understandings of excellence in one’s own life and ministry, and seek to become holistic is the fulfillment of the calls upon their lives to ordained and licensed ministry. To that end, from time to time special opportunities will become available and posted to this site.
Suggestions for additional lifelong learning opportunities may be forwarded to the Office of Clergy Excellence.
