The Florida Conference of The United Methodist Church (FLUMC) believes that a seamless flow of information is a vital resource to assist church leaders in their ministry of making disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world.

As a result, in recent months, FLUMC has been working on updating its email communication system with clergy.

Allowing every clergy person in the conference to select and use any Internet Service Provider (ISP) has created many problems. As a result, the ability to assure the delivery of conference related email to clergy has been poor at best.

In response to this issue, FLUMC has developed and is getting set to launch a plan that gives every clergy person an email address assigned to them by the conference. This will be at no cost to the individual for this email service or address, which will result in savings in staff time at the Conference Center from staff no longer making changes in the clergy email data base.

Thus, beginning Monday, March 3, email coming from the Florida Conference to its clergy will be sent to this new address. However, to give clergy time to make the switch from their current e-mail address to the new, conference-provided e-mail address, emails will be sent to both the “old” and the “new” address for four weeks. On April 1, however, ALL email sent from the conference will go only to your new account. No foolin’.

To start, you’ll need any computer that has access to the internet. Simply go to, enter your username and password, and you’ll be able to read emails sent to you by the conference.

There are many questions clergy are asking about using this new system. Below are some answers to the most frequently asked questions:

  1. Can I still use my old email address?
    Yes, this system is not intended to replace an existing account. Simply forward the e-mails from the FLUMC address to the one of your choosing, or use the FLUMC address as your primary account.
  2. Can email be forwarded from my FLUMC account to my old address?
    Yes, but it will not be done by conference staff. See the “
    Quick Start Guide” for step-by-step instructions.
  3. Do I get to select my new e-mail address?
    No, all email addresses are set to a predetermined name scheme which is However, you may ask that a nickname such as “Bill” instead of “William” be used, and in most cases it will be approved as long as it properly identifies the user of the account.
  4. Is my login (user ID) the same as my email address?
    In most cases, no. Your user ID in most cases is the first initial of your first name and your full last name. If multiple people have same first initial and last name, the user ID will be modified at the discretion of the system administrator.
  5. Who do I call if a have problem?
    The IT Help Desk is available from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, to assist you. Call toll free, 800-282-8011, and ask for Ext. 119. The IT Help Desk will not be available on days designated as conference holidays or weekends.
  6. Do I have to use this new system?
    Clergy are not required to use this new system. However, clergy will not receive important communications from the conference through your current email after April 1 2008. At 12:01 a.m. on Tuesday, April 1, ALL conference related emails will go only to your new account. No foolin’.
  7. I don't use Internet Explorer, can I still use the conference web mail?
    Yes, the New Email System is fully compatible with most modern browsers. Click

  8. Will laity have a similar e-mail address given to them?
    At the present time, no plans are in the works to do this.
  9. Clergy Email is automatically cleared after 30 days. We encourage all clergy members to use one of our supported email software programs to download their emails to avoid losing anything. Please Click here for instructions.
