Director of Worship

South Shore UMC, located in the Riverview/South Shore area of South Hillsborough County, Florida seeks to hire a qualified Director of Worship to lead our weekly Sunday services and special holy day services with passion and excellence.

Seeking: Director of Worship - half-time
Reports to:  Senior Pastor and/or Strategic Team Designee

General Description: 

The Director of Worship develops the ministries of traditional and modern music and incorporates this music in the worship of the church so that the worship of the congregation is enhanced to the glory of God. This position is responsible for developing, coordinating and leading an effective Traditional Sanctuary Choir, special music, and Modern Worship Band and providing leadership and supervision of persons involved in this ministry. This would include, at minimum, coordinating, directing, and developing all worship music to be offered in the praise of God in the weekly worship service and other special worship services as requested. The Director of Worship will lead and rehearse with the utilized worship leadership weekly and direct the worship leadership at all services, including holidays and special events.  

Qualifications: 

The Director of Worship should have a demonstrated track record of leadership in music and ministry. The Director of Worship should demonstrate a mature Christian faith and commitment to United Methodist teachings.  

• Experience in ensemble leadership, including directing, rehearsing, arranging, accompanying. 

• Proficiency in playing guitar or piano, with the ability to lead while playing, solo and with a team across various styles of music.  

• Experience in leading worship that transcends modern, contemporary, and traditional genres. 

• Leadership ability to work with and inspire volunteers. 

• Degree, certifications or major coursework in music, as well as a broad exposure to music styles, and/or 2+ years experience leading this style of worship. 

• Understanding of and ability to apply principles of group dynamics. 

• Computer skills including ProPresenter, Keynote, and Microsoft Office for Mac.  

• Fundamental A/V Skills on a digital soundboard and broadcast system. 

Pay range will be based on skill and experience. Depending on the qualifications and abilities of the applicant, there is the potential for this position to be combined into a full-time position.
