Job Title: Director of Music Ministries

Status:  FT/PT:  Part-time
Hours:  20 hours a week

Position Summary:
This position is a member of Staff under the authority of the Staff Parish Relations Committee (SPRC) and the supervision of the Pastor of Wesley Memorial UMC.  The Director of Music Ministries (DMM) is responsible for the music programs of the church, for developing and expanding worship through the music ministry, directing musical presentations at worship services, and to create God-glorifying worship experiences for all.  The DMM is responsible for administrative and managerial duties as described below.  

Job Requirements:
Educational:

  • Minimum: High School diploma or GED required

  • Music training and background required

  • Administrative and managerial capabilities preferred 

Experience:

  • Skilled musician with ability to direct and/or accompany musical groups

  • Preparing and directing musical presentations

  • Have ability to utilize, and is familiar with, multiple music modalities

Other:

  • Shall be grounded in the basic Christian faith

  • Shall uphold church policies and procedures

  • Able and willing to work as a team member with staff, lay members, and volunteers

  • Maintain a professional manner and appearance at all times

  • Shall be punctual and prepared

  

Responsibilities (including, but not limited to): 

  1. Assist Senior Pastor in planning and preparing for weekly worship, as well as any other special services, cantatas, or musical needs as requested.

  2. Coordinate musical selections (i.e., pre- and postludes, hymns, and praise music) according to the sermon subject in order to enhance worship experiences.

  3. Attend regularly scheduled Guide Team meetings, as well as additional meetings as requested.

  4. Update and maintain the music library in an orderly fashion within the perimeters of the church budget.

  5. Submit all worship music and monthly calendars in a timely manner to appropriate staff.

  6. Recruit and train members for various worship presentations.

  7. Communicate with Senior Pastor, staff, Worship Design Team, and SPRC liaison with an open mind and in a timely manner.

  8. Participate in a minimum of one (1) Continuing Education course or training opportunity per calendar year.

  9. Authorized to have the right of first refusal for providing music for weddings and funerals.  If approved, will work with couples or families to select appropriate music.  If not available, is responsible for finding a suitable substitute.

  10. Plan and prepare the budget for the needs of the music ministries’ program.

 

Terms of Employment:

  • Required Background Check

  • Required proof of eligibility for employment

  • 90-day probationary period

  • Become familiar with the personnel manual and other policies within probationary period

  • Execute all relevant documents required by Florida UMC Conference within the probationary period

  • This position is employment-at-will
