Coordinator of Children and Youth Ministries

Job Summary: The Coordinator will vision, plan and advocate for the children and youth of PIUMC in the areas of faith development, safety, discipleship, and worship.  Responsible for assuring that children and youth are included in the life of the congregation.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Plan and implement Bible study curriculum for Christ-centered children and youth ministries
  • Support Pastor and all other committee leaders, serve as staff team member and attend all staff meetings
  • Provide the “Children’s Message” during Sunday services
  • Plan activities and develop a program for 1st through 5th grade children’s Sunday worship, and activities in the Nursery
  • Prepare Youth (6th through 12th grade) for participation in Sunday worship services
  • Plan and lead Vacation Bible School (VBS) and organize all volunteers needed
  • Provide for other off-campus opportunities for Christian service to the community (on and off the Island)
  • Develop a budget for any supplies or essentials needed, to be submitted and approved
  • Oversee Nursery and paid workers.  Recommend future Nursery workers, as needed, and prepare paperwork for background checks
  • Oversees the Kids Clothing Room
Other Responsibilities
  • Provide opportunities for spiritual growth and services for youth and children
  • Offer spiritual guidance to youth and children individually
  • Interact positively and regularly with parents, as much as possible
  • Advertise events via school handouts, Facebook, and newspaper
  • Plan and purchase for seasonal parties and events for youth and children
  • Recruit and oversee adult volunteers for leadership and transportation
  • Oversee hiring and scheduling of nursery workers
  • Prepare expense reports, complete with all receipts
  • Monitor and report attendance for all youth and children’s groups
  • Constructively and appropriately manage conflict situations
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to lift objects up to thirty (30) pounds
  • Ability to carry equipment over short distances or load a moving cart to do so
  • Ability to drive vehicles (car or van) to transport youth and children
Reports to: 
  • Lead Pastor (with assistance of Staff Pastor Parish Relations Committee (SPRC) as needed)
  • Performance review scheduled annually
Supervises:  Nursery workers; adult volunteers.
Salary:             Dependent on experience, qualifications, and education
                        Range: $13,000 – $15,000 per year
