Position Title: Director of Family Empowerment (Faith Mission)
Supervisor:  Director of Faith Mission

Position Overview:
The Director of Family Empowerment leads the Circles model of empowerment for lower income families and individuals. Primary areas of work are (a) building relationships with lower income families, (b) supporting the journey of lower income persons to and through Circles, and (c) building capacity for the Circles model. This position must be skilled in community organizing and work gracefully in cross-cultural settings.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Cultivate relationships with Faith Mission neighbors and additional families participating in Faith Mission programs
  • Act as chapter liaison for Circles USA, including developing and maintaining records, and preparing and reporting progress (i.e conducting progress report meetings with Circle Leaders at each of the 6-month milestone intervals)
  • Recognize, invite, lead, educate, equip and coordinate lay persons who are called to help the congregation in the Circles ministry to fulfill our mission of making disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world
  • Collaborate with the communications team to create effective methods for increasing awareness and encouraging participation in our Circles ministry opportunities (i.e. Trinity’s website, social media, signage, newsletters, and speaking engagements); including speaking and writing about local poverty alleviation
  • Organize, equip, support and assist the leadership of the following servant volunteer teams:
  • Logistics – manage space, secure meals, organize children’s program, and assist in leading weekly Circles meetings
  • Community Resources – build and maintain relationships with community service providers for Circles referrals
  • Jobs & Education – identify local educational and employment programs and opportunities
  • Invite, screen, and enroll Circle Leaders in collaboration with the Recruitment and Training Team
  • Train Circles Weekly Meeting facilitators
  • Maintain knowledge of local services available in the community and disseminate information to Circles in collaboration with the Community Resources Team
  • Maintain knowledge of employment opportunities, trainings, and education available in the community and disseminate information to Circles in collaboration with the Jobs & Education Team
  • In collaboration with Circles Servant Volunteer Coordinator,
    • Co-lead circles leader trainings and weekly circle meetings
    • Facilitate the process of matching Leaders and Allies
    • Ensure healthy, focused, and successful Matched Circles, including providing coaching meetings to support Matched Circles when needed
  • Regularly attend and provide support in servant volunteer team meetings
  • Work with Faith Mission Director to maintain the fidelity of the Circles model
  • Prepare presentations based on Circles, local poverty, Cliff Effect results, etc. to generate awareness and partnerships
  • Model Christian character as evidenced by a life of prayer, spiritual disciplines, weekly worship, tithing and participation in the life of Trinity
  • Exhibit dedication and investment in the mission, vision and core values of Trinity United Methodist Church
  • Assist and perform other duties as assigned
Education, Experience, and Certification Requirements:
Minimum Qualifications
  • Four years of experience in a Human Services field with a B.A. degree and training in family development or case management OR Six years of experience in a Human Services field without a degree or specialized training/certification
  • Experience working with people experiencing poverty
  • Experience in leadership roles and coordination of servant volunteers
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with community organizing or community development
  • Public speaking, including on poverty issues
  • Supervision of staff
