Church Bookkeeper

Position: Church Bookkeeper
Reports to: Sr. Pastor
Position: Non-Exempt, part time status, approximately 24-30 hours per week
Salary: Hourly Rate, based on experience of candidate, with annually accrued Personal Time Off
The church bookkeeper works with the Pastor, Leadership Board Sub-Committee on Finance and the Director of the Early Life Academy to apply policies and procedures supporting the ministries and missions of the church.  The Bookkeeper provides essential accounts payable functions, clerical tasks, general bookkeeping duties, and records all funds received by the congregation and ELA Tuition payments.

  • Active member in a church community, but cannot be a member of FUMC-LOL
(A detailed Job Description will be provided by the Church Leadership Board Sub-Committee on Pastor Parish Relations prior to the Interview process.)
  • Provide general bookkeeping services, maintain strict confidentiality of all financial records
  • Utilize Church Accounting Software (Shelby) to record financial data
  • Reconcile church and ELA accounts, producing weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual reporting
  • Enter and report weekly church contributions and ELA Tuition Payments
  • Enter all vouchers and invoices submitted; prepare payment checks; submit checks for signature
  • Process and prepare church and ELA staff payroll
  • Prepare IRS Forms 1099 and 941, as required by the church or ELA
  • College or High School Diploma Degree or 2 Years of Prior Bookkeeper Experience 
  • Proficient in church accounting software (Shelby) & Microsoft Office Products
  • Experience in entering employee timesheets in an online payroll system
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing, with excellent editing skills
  • Self-starter, organized and good at multi-tasking and prioritizing projects
  • Collaborates well with others, but can also be effective working independently
