Position:         Lead Cook
Status:             Full-time, Non-Exempt
Reports To:     Food Services Manager and Assistant Food Service Manager
The Lead Cook is the key staff person under the Food Service Manager who will prepare the meals to the standards and satisfaction of the Life Enrichment Center (LEC) and our guests.  This includes food preparation, organization for meals to be served in a timely fashion, meet the needs of special diets, be flexible as needed, and relate well to staff and guests.  This position requires training in cooking for large, mostly adult groups, with a friendly, outgoing demeanor. Must be willing to work at Warren W. Willis Camp (WWW) as assigned and/or in other work areas at LEC during slow periods, including maintenance, housekeeping, etc. 

  • Ability to thrive in a Christian Setting
  • Skills, experience and training in food and dining service in a retreat or conference setting preferred.
  • Training in cooking for larger adult groups
  • Ability to work regularly on weekends with variable shifts
  • Guest oriented with an energetic personality
  • Willingness to work in collaboration with WWW Food Service
  • Self-motivated, honest and dependable
  • Current driver’s license required with a clean motor vehicle driving record 
    General Responsibilities:
    Prepare meals at the Life Enrichment Center/Warren W. Willis
    Specific Responsibilities:
  • The preparation of excellent meals at the Life Enrichment Center
  • Work in all capacities of food preparation and cleaning
  • Work with Food Service Manager in menu planning as requested
  • Serve as Assistant Food Service Manager in his/her absence
  • Supervise staff and kitchen volunteers
  • Work with staff to prepare and serve meals with appropriate clean up following
  • Ability to follow directions and recipes
  • Relate well with guests and meet special needs in a friendly and hospitable way
  • Make sure all aspects of the service meet and exceed state health standards
  • Be open to new training and professional growth opportunities
  • During slow times, be prepared and willing to work in other areas of the ministry as needed or be assigned to the WWW Camp food service operation 
    Working Conditions:
  • Physical ability to lift and carry 50 pounds to place on a 36-inch-high counter
  • Visual and verbal ability to identify and respond to environmental and other hazards of the facilities including camper, guest and staff behavior
  • Physical mobility and endurance to perform tasks while standing/walking for long periods of time (60 minutes or more)
  • Work requires willingness to work a flexible schedule and including weekends and/or evening work
  • Ability to work in ambient conditions of high heat
