Edgewater UMC Children’s Pastor

Edgewater Church is multi-cultural United Methodist Church located in Southwest Florida. Our attendance averages 680 worshipers, but fluctuates higher and lower as we have many seasonal residents. We are looking for a passionate Jesus follower to take over and grow our children's program of approximately 50+ active students in a life giving way. Edgewater Church is a contemporary styled church located in an old movie theater. Our mission statement is “Helping people meet, know, and serve Jesus Christ” and we are passionate about pursing our mission. This is a full time position.

Principal focus:

Perform, develop and oversee all aspects of children’s ministry including but not limited to Nursery, VBS, CR Kids, Children’s Church, Sprouts, GAP, Sunday School and Holiday Events


  • Has a personal relationship with  Jesus Christ
  • Fully supports the mission, vision, and values of Edgewater UMC
  • Experience leading a children’s ministry of 50+ children is preferred

Regular duties & responsibilities:  

  • Recruit and coordinate volunteers, training and development of adult leaders who have a passion for shepherding and discipling children
  • Supervision, training and ongoing development of paid/volunteer children’s ministry staff
  • Serve on Ministry Leadership Team (Senior Leadership)
  • Provide general spiritual and emotional care for the children in this ministry
  • Serve as a liaison, bridge from children’s ministry to youth group
  • Coordinate schedules and activities
  • Work with Youth Pastor to implement Child Protection Policy
  • Oversee budget and expenditures for the children’s ministry
  • Evaluate programs for effectiveness, develop/select new redesigned programs to fit changing needs within the church, in keeping with the mission of Edgewater UMC in helping the children meet, know and serve Jesus Christ
  • Work in conjunction with other church ministries
  • Other duties as assigned


  • Bachelor’s degree is preferred with background in education
  • Flexible hours – Weekends a must
  • Pass a background check and fingerprinting
  • CPR Certification
  • Physically able to handle demands of job
  • Leadership skills  - ability to recruit and lead a team
  • Communication skills – ability to communicate and establish working relationships with all types of people and social media skills
  • Ability to lead classes
  • Fully meet required work deadlines
  • Work well and cooperate with other church staff
  • Interact with other church staff, church members and the public in a professional, courteous and respectful manner
