Title: DIRECTOR OF CHILDREN AND YOUTH
Responsible to: Pastor
Compensation & Hours: $10-12/hr for an average of 15-18 hours per week
Murray Hill United Methodist Church is a congregation located in one of the most diverse parts of Jacksonville, Florida. Since 1927, it has engaged in the mission of “sharing Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world.” Therefore, engagement with the children and youth allows the opportunity to shape and transform the next generation and make an impact for the Kingdom in our community. Murray Hill has a small children and youth ministry with unlimited potential to grow. Currently, we serve between 5-12 children and 2-7 youths per Sunday. Economic challenges in our community require creativity to use and stretch resources. However, we believe that the best resource we have is the love of God and this small group provides opportunity to invest in developing relationships with children and families that reinforce the love and grace of God working in each of their lives.
This position must be filled by someone with a deep and growing faith in Jesus Christ, showing the fruits of the Holy Spirit in their life. He or she must uphold the basic tenants of faith as well as the doctrines of the United Methodist Church. He or she must have a love of children and youth and a strong commitment to their growth of faith in our church community. They should also wish to connect the children and youth of the community to the church who have yet been unreached and would benefit from skills in outreach through community partners, social media, and face-to-face interactions. Further, in our multi-generational congregation, this director should be able to communicate the activities of the children and youth ministry to the congregation, and provide opportunities for church members to partner in the development of our children and youth in their faith through giving, volunteering, prayers, relationship building, etc. The director of children and youth will remain accountable to the pastor and the staff parish relations committee (SPRC) in their job and responsibilities. He or she should be able to equip, support and coordinate volunteers while always upholding our Children and Youth Protection Policy. This position requires someone with a flexible schedule to work evenings and weekends as children and youth events require. Applicants must be able to pass a background screening. Ideally, this director would have the equivalent of two years post-secondary education and/or two years of experience working with children and youth.
