HOW TO HAVE A HAPPY and HOLY NEW YEAR/LIFE:
Part 2: SET GODLY GOALS
In Proverbs 29:18, we will find these words, "Where there is no VISION/REVELATION/GOAL the people perish."
My fellow believers, 2014 is ELEVEN days old and I would submit to you that most of us that are still alive and maybe reading these words have yet to set any GOALS or OBJECTIVES for this year. Many of us, if not most of us, have NO clue what we would like to ACCOMPLISH, ACHIEVE or ACQUIRE by the end of this year.
It is my belief that if 2014 is going to be providential pleasurable, profitable and prosperous, we MUST set some goals that are not only GODLY in that they are in line with the WILL, the WAY and the WORD of GOD but they are also measurable, attainable and enjoyable.
At the end of this year, each of us should be able to look back over the days, weeks and months of this year with excitement and enthusiasm and SHOUT for joy over our SANCTIFIED SUCCESSES.
However, someone reading these words are a little puzzled and perplex and in their spirit they are asking, how do I know what GODLY GOALS I am to set and go after in 2014?" They are also taking the position, "This is just another year for me and I am just glad to be alive!"
First of all, I REBUKE that spirit in the NAME of Jesus. Secondly, each and every one of us has a providential purpose for being on this planet. God has DIVINELY DESIGNED each of us with a DIVINE DESTINY in mind. I'll prove it for you...
Jeremiah 29:11 encourages us with these words, "I alone know the PLANS I have for you, plans to bring you prosperity and not disaster, plans to bring about the future you hope for."
The question is how do we DISCOVER and DISCERN what the plans for our lives are in order to SET GOALS that will drive us toward our divine destiny?
The simple answer is - ASK GOD!
- Jeremiah 33:3 says, "Call to me and I will answer you; I will tell you wonderful and marvelous things that you know nothing about."
- James 1:5 says, "But if any of you lack wisdom, he/she should pray to God who will give it to him/her, because God gives generously and graciously to all."
- Matthew 7:7 says, "ASK and you will receive; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be open to you..."
If there is ANYONE reading these lines and you have no clue about living this life or your providential purpose on this planet, I would like to CHARGE and CHALLENGE you to PRAY and ASK God to show you what He would have you to do and how He would have you to do it.
Now, as we SET our SAILS for 2014, it is IMPERATIVE and IMPORTANT for us to CHART our COURSE to know where we are going and how we plan to get there.
If you DESIRE to HAVE A HAPPY and HOLY NEW YEAR/LIFE, I would like to suggest you SET FOUR GOALS for 2014.
1. Set some FINANCIAL GOALS. [Read Job 36:11]
The Bible teaches us more about MONEY than it does about REPENTANCE, REDEMPTION or the RAPTURE.
The word MONEY can be found in 123 verses of scripture.
Most of us living in this country (USA) have more money than most people living on this planet. We may THINK we are POOR but in reality, we are just BROKE!
How do you know you are BROKE?
- American Express calls you and BEGS you to leave home without it.
- You are formulating a plan to rob the local food bank.
- You rob Peter to pay Paul and then you go and rob Paul.
- You buy what you want and then beg for what you need.
- You think a lottery ticket is an investment.
Hear me and me well, Deuteronomy 8:18 says, "It is God who gives us the POWER to get wealth." God gives us the power to earn it by HARD work. God gives us the power to earn it by HONEST work. God gives us the power to earn it by HOLY work.
Let your financial goals be: a) to become DEBT FREE. Write down ALL of your debts [non-recurring bills] and begin to PAY them OFF. b) Pay your recurring bills ON TIME! c) TITHE at least 10% to God and d) START saving something each pay period.
2. Set some FAMILY GOALS. [Read Joshua 24:15]
Most of us would agree that the FAMILY is the foundation of any nation. As the family goes so goes the nation.
Hear this, it is not just the QUANTITY of time but the QUALITY of time we must spend together as a family.
The FIRST institution incorporated by God was the FAMILY.
- Read Deuteronomy 6:1-9
- Read Exodus 20:12
- Read Ephesians 6:1-4
It is my prayer for every family reading this that CHRIST will be the HERO of the family, DAD will be the HEAD of the family, MOM will be the HEART of the family and the children/grandchildren will be the HAPPINESS of the family.
3. Set some FITNESS GOALS [Read 1 Corinthians 6:19-20]
The goal for EVERY born again and blood bought believer is to be in the BEST bodily health possible.
Your fitness goals should include:
a. EATING RIGHT - Read 2 Corinthians 7:1
b. EXERCISING RIGHT - Read 3 John 1:2; 1 Timothy 4:8
c. THINKING RIGHT - Read Philippians 4:8-9; 1 Corinthians 14:20
4. Set some FAITH GOALS. [Read Romans 10:17]
The ultimate goal of each believer is to grow in FAITH and FAVOR of our God. We all know that without faith it is IMPOSSIBLE to please God [Hebrews 11:6]. Our faith goals for 2014 should include:
a. Strive to WORSHIP WEEKLY - Read Hebrews 10:25
b. Strive to be in BIBLE STUDY - Read 2 Timothy 2:15
c. Strive to PRAY DAILY - Read Luke 18;1
d. Strive to WITNESS the WORD - Read Acts 1:8
Brothers and sisters, as you continue to journey throughout 2014, remember, when we FAIL to PLAN [or set goals], we PLAN to FAIL!
Let us pray:
Most gracious and giving God, we are grateful and thankful for this another year. We are grateful and thankful for another 12 months to live out the plan and the purpose you have divinely designed for our lives. We only ask that you would teach us not only to number our days but to properly set goals that are in line with your will, your way and your word. Finally Lord, we know that we may plan all kinds of things, but it is your WILL that is going to be done. In 2014, it is our prayer that you order our steps. In Jesus' name, Amen and Ase'!
