Each year we hold an event called the Holy Spirit Encounter (HSE) at the New Life Center. The HSE is an important time for building up and encouraging the leaders of the United Methodist Church in Zambia. Many will bring family, friends and loved ones for the first time. We normally see about 300 to 400 people there. The date is set for April 3rd to 7th with morning, afternoon and evening sessions. This is your time to be in ministry partnership with us by praying for the HSE. People will be traveling from the four corners of Zambia and even Florida. Our guest speakers this year include Rev. Blake Lorenz and Rev. Armando Rodriguez. Blake has been coming from Orlando, Florida each year for the last 12 years. Rev. Armando Rodriguez will be a new speaker from Tallahassee, Florida. His wife, Icel Rodriguez, will be coming as well. She is the Director of Global Missions in the Florida Conference UMCs. The Rodriguez's are no strangers to Africa. They served in Angola from the Florida UMC Conference. Rev. Kilembo, Zambia's Assistant Bishop, will also be speaking as well some of our other Zambian UMC pastors. Thank you in advance for your prayers.
On another joyful note, we have just returned to Zambia after spending time with our family and friends for the Holidays in Florida and visiting many churches in Michigan, Minnesota and of course, Florida. On some of our travels we had our fellow Zambians, Rev. Bernard Lumene and Rev. Charles & Barbra Mulemena with us. We had a wonderful time sharing what God is doing in Zambia. We want to send out a BIG thank you to everyone who hosted us, housed us, fed us, and participated in ministry with us. There are no words to really express our appreciation. May God Bless each of you greatly for the part you played in helping us to feel so welcome!
On our return to Zambia we were joined by a new UMVIM missionary. Her name is Emily Padilla from Indiana. She will be working with us in many areas at the New Life Center over the next year. Her main focus will be teaching biology to the students we are tutoring. Of course there will be much more for her to do, but we don't want to overwhelm her at first so we will be bringing her onboard slowly to help us with organizing the PET project as well as working with our churches and in the surrounding communities. We will be sharing more about her later as she settles in. We would really appreciate all of your prayers for her as she has taken this giant step of faith to come out and help us.
There are a lot of wonderful areas of ministry lined up for this year including six work teams. We will be sharing more now that we're back concerning each ministry event this year. Please keep all of this in prayer. The year 2013 is going to be another great year for the Lord's work in Zambia!
