Florida clergy see Advent studies published

Advent graphicIt’s hard to tell in sunny Florida, but the season of Advent is around the corner.

Just in time to help Christians meditate during the time leading up to Christmas are two new study books written by Florida UMC clergy.

Rev. Dr. James Harnish, senior pastor of Hyde Park UMC, Tampa, and author of several books, has written “When God Comes Down,” designed for five weeks of study including Christmas. The study focuses on the meaning of incarnation and God’s action in Jesus Christ.

Published by Abingdon Press, it is available by clicking here.

Dr. John Stroman, a retired Florida pastor who served at Pasadena Community Church in St. Petersburg and Killearn UMC in Tallahassee, has written “Singing Mary’s Song,” a reflection on how Mary must have felt and her response when the angel told her she would bear the Messiah.

The work focuses on a different line of her song for each week of Advent, includes daily meditations and has a guide for small groups. It is published by The Upper Room and available by clicking here.

Donate here to the Florida Conference Hurricane Michael Fund to help churches and the neighborhoods that surround them. Through December 31, 2018, donations will be matched up to $500,000. Volunteer to bring yourself or a team to help with the recovery.
