Dear friends in ministry,
We are just a few weeks away from our annual Holy Spirit Encounter (HSE) gathering at the New Life Center. This has become a cornerstone to much of the spiritual growth in our United Methodist Church, as well as other churches and ministries. It started eleven years ago after holding village crusades with all of our United Methodist congregations in the Copperbelt region of Zambia. We realized that our pastors and church leaders needed special encouragement, teaching and vision in the area of being "anointed in the Holy Spirit". Over the years we have seen God use this special time to set free our leadership from the bondages of "church as usual" and "strong African folklore". We have seen the signs, wonders and miracles of our ever present Holy Spirit working in personal lives and now it's multiplied into the life of the church. It has changed the course of the United Methodist Church in Zambia and beyond forever.
Evangelist, Rev. Blake Lorenz, one of our dearest friends of 35 years, has helped lead us these last twelve years. He comes with team members that work with our evangelism teams in Zambia. This year is no different. Evangelist, Chris Bright, and Melanie from Orlando, Florida will be coming with him. Then we are also blessed to have; Carl Bergeson from First UMC-Ocala, FL, Dan & Marsha Mullet and Jean Kendra, from Heritage UMC-Clearwater, FL. here as well!
Each year these gatherings are a bit of a mystery on how they will turn out. Something unique and special comes out of each one. Mostly because we let the Holy Spirit lead as we go. We know there will be over 400 church leaders here. This is a four day gathering with morning-afternoon-evening sessions. There is no question we will see God's hand at work and many will leave healed in body and spirit and be set free from the strong bondage African life has on them.
Your part in this ministry is to pray, starting right now. Please:
• Pray for the team leaders; that God will use them (both American and Africans).
• Pray we have enough food, fuel and finances.
• Pray that the rain and power outages stay away.
• Pray that all those traveling (Zambia & USA) will get here safely.
• Pray that many of our church leaders are anointed and set free in the Holy Spirit.
• Pray that Delbert & Sandy and the NLC Staff can hang in there one more time. This is not for the lighthearted, it's work…but we love it!
More will be added later, but NOW… 'a call to prayer'.
