Beyond 50 Ministries

The Beyond 50 Ministries Team was formed and developed to equip church leaders (clergy and laity) to utilize the spiritual gifts and talents of older adults engaged in making disciples of Jesus Christ.  To accomplish our mission, we offer resources to encourage and support the complete integration of older adults in the Body of Christ. Currently in the United States, the fastest growing demographic is those who are 50 years and older.  This is especially significant in the state of Florida. The church can be a resource in helping to address the needs of this growing demographic and to do so within the context of the resources of the Florida Conference of the United Methodist Church. Plus, the church can benefit from the gifts and graces that this group has to offer in continuing the mission and vision of the Florida Conference.

The team is striving to create a network of churches and individuals in the Florida Conference where we would have a forum to raise awareness of key issues, to initiate and support ministries that are of interest to older adults and to be a resource for local churches in developing and supporting ministries pertaining to this age demographic. The team aims to share best practices among the churches in the conference and provide links to resources that pertain to issues and opportunities for local churches for those in this age range.

Our network of churches has a goal is to expand to reach a greater number of churches in the conference. The Beyond 50 Ministries Team will continue to work closely with the Southeastern Jurisdiction and the Council on Older Adult Ministries.

We would like to broaden the outreach of this ministry to become an advocate for elder issues and work with local and state agencies.  We also strive to be a vital network of churches that can share resources, sponsor programs and host workshops.
