Florida Southern Housing

Campus Housing Reservation Deadline:  May 30, 2019

The Chaplain’s Office at Florida Southern College will coordinate campus housing for Annual Conference 2019. To make your stay at Florida Southern College as comfortable as possible, please read and refer to the following documents:

The Office of Church Relations coordinates only campus housing and campus meals. All other information can be found at

The Bishop’s Offering for Annual Conference 2019 will be divided evenly between a restart of the FAMU Wesley Foundation in Tallahassee and planting a new church in Lowell Women’s Prison in Reddick.

Lowell Correctional Institution
The Florida Conference is joining a trend in the US by placing a United Methodist church inside a state prison. A pastor will be assigned to serve at Lowell Correctional Institution for women in Reddick, Florida. The idea to partner with Prison Congregations of America, a consulting group that helps denominations establish worshiping congregations in prisons, came after Bishop Carter heard about a church based in a prison in Tennessee. Currently there are 34 prison-based churches in the United States, including two UMC prison churches in Tennessee and Iowa. Conference officials chose Lowell because it houses the most women (3,054) in a correctional institution in the United States, including three on death row.

Impact at Florida A&M University Wesley Foundation
Part of our vision for IMPACT@FAMU Wesley Foundation is to create a “home away from home” for our students, an office/pastoral care area for the Executive Director, and a place to worship, gather, learn, play, and pray for the FAMU campus at large. We call this space the IMPACT House, a spiritual Living & Learning Experience for our IMPACT FAMUly. The money collected via this offering will help to make this vision a reality.

We are asking local churches to receive an offering in May as a participation in this expression of God’s mission. Please use the attached bulletin insert as needed.

The Peace of the Lord,

Ken Carter

This year funds raised will be split between two important ministries: 1. The Florida United Methodist Foundation’s Future Generations Fund which provides small grants to programs and ministries that foster the spiritual growth and church leadership development of children, youth and young adults ages 30 and younger. 2. Florida Advocacy Days (FAD) Young Adult Sponsorship. This will enable a new generation of leaders to receive training on critical issues, meet with elected officials and engage in conversation that will minimize or prevent hunger and homelessness in children and senior citizens in Florida due to a lack of resources.

Join church and worship leaders from around the Florida Conference for a two-day Worship Leader Retreat, Thursday, June 13, 3 p.m., to Saturday, June 15, 12 noon, at the Life Enrichment Center in Fruitland Park, Fla.
This event is sponsored by the Florida Chapter of the Fellowship of United Methodists in Music & Worship Arts.
Presenters for this event will be Todd Fields, Rev. Melissa Cooper, Joshua Smith and Jeremy Hearn.  Worship leaders will be Drew Miller, University Carillon UMC, and Gabrielle Toledo, FUMC Orlando.
Registration fee, double occupancy room accommodations and six meals at the Life Enrichment Center are $250.  For single room accommodations, add an additional $40.

Growing Deeper Roots

The festival of Wisdom and Grace is a South East Jurisdictional event aiming to help persons find purpose and renewal in the second half of life.  It is being held at Lake Junaluska, NC, August 5-9.

“Growing Deeper Roots” is the theme of the 2019 event, and it promises to be a great experience with a lineup of insightful and inspiring speakers, including Richard Gentzler author of “An Age of Opportunity: Intentional Ministry by, with, and for Older Adults.” In addition, there will be workshops, entertainment, worship, special events and outings. The pure blessing of the festival is the opportunity to enjoy the North Carolina scenery for a time of rest and relaxation.

Development Fund offers 2.25 percent interest

The Florida United Methodist Foundation’s Development Fund is now offering an annual interest rate of 2.25 percent on deposits to the fund. Any Florida resident, business or church can invest, benefitting from that competitive rate. Here’s how it works: the Development Fund receives deposits from investors and then makes low-interest loans from those investments to United Methodist churches and affiliated faith-based nonprofits for new construction, expansion and renovation. Those investments are protected by nearly $500 million of value in church buildings and property through mortgages with the foundation. And deposits can be withdrawn at any time — unlike CDs and other investment options that have time requirements. Money can be deposited today and withdrawn the next week. And it only takes a minimum investment of $100 to open an account. For more information, contact the Rev. Mark Becker at 866-363-9673, extension 7125, or For an application to open an account, request one by sending an email to or go online at The Florida United Methodist Foundation is an independent 501(c)(3).

May 11 - Run 4 Life 4 Miler - FUMCH

The Run 4 Life 4 Miler begins and ends on the campus of the Florida United Methodist Children's Home in historic Enterprise.  The 4 mile course is on magnificent oak canopy roads along the shore of Lake Monroe.  It is one of the most uniquely beautiful areas and race courses in Central Florida.   The goal of this race is to bring awareness to mental health/depression issues and to raise funds for programs providing support to those in need.  It is also in remembrance of those who were overwhelmed by their struggles and felt suicide was their only option.  All race proceeds will go to FUMCH and other local suicide prevention programs.    Whether you will run or walk, we hope that you will ...
