On Mission Together Weekend

Mission & Purpose

On Mission Together Weekend is an opportunity for your church community to intentionally gather together and experience our shared mission in action. Bishop Ken Carter has asked all churches within our conference to set aside one weekend in May for this campaign to encourage alignment and connection across our network. Join together as we connect in community and rally around mission!

How It Works

Simply put, On Mission Together Weekend is a three-part template for your church to use throughout one entire weekend. This allows for us to create unity across our churches while also allowing you the opportunity to tailor for your local context. Each of the three movements includes a loose agenda you may adapt, recommended experiences for your congregations, and resources to help guide you.

Friday Connection

Friday night is a flexible time for your community to connect with one another and celebrate how you are living on mission. We think starting with a potluck dinner is an easy and participatory way for people to come together and connect with one another. You could incorporate games, a competition, or something fun to make the first experience of the weekend high energy and enjoyable. You could also do a Love Feast, Concert, or Celebrate Recovery.

Saturday Mission

In the morning, each group will participate in some sort of missional engagement project. This could be a prayer walk, service project, or some other way to tangibly reach out and bless the people in your community. Midday is free for rest, relaxation, reflection, and play. For dinner, you could have everyone gather together or break up into smaller groups at homes or restaurants for guided conversation.

Sunday Service

On Sunday, we invite you to align your service to participate with us in focusing on the mission we share together in the UMC. A sermon prototype will be offered for pastors to use, if it fits in your context. Otherwise, this is a great opportunity to focus on disciple-making, grace, and sharing the Gospel. This service would also be a great time for the pastor to share the vision for how your local church may live into the mission going forward.

Make sure to register at the link below before Monday, February 25, so that we may provide an Experience Toolkit for your church to use for hosting On Mission Together Weekend.
