Witness Outreach

Witness in our context is sharing the good news of Jesus Christ in obedience to the Great Commission as spoken by our Lord in Matthew 28:18-20. This is addressing the most important need of all which is the eternal need of salvation and having assurance of eternal life. We desire to keep the Great Commission as the highest priority of all we do in community outreach.

Transformation Jacksonville and North East Florida:

To prepare the hearts of the 1.5 million people in North East Florida, one of Community Outreach Ministry's partners, Transformation Jacksonville and North East Florida, has as its mandate to see every street and school in the region adopted by Christians and churches in prayer (this is called "Prayer Evangelism").  This movement is based upon Luke 10:1-10 where Jesus instructed the 72 to go in pairs to every village and city and do 4 things at each house:

  1. Speak peace to the house.
  2. Fellowship in the house.
  3. Pray for felt needs in the house.
  4. Announce that the "Kingdom of God has come near."

As of March 31, 2012, over 3,000 streets have been adopted by Christians and over 100 schools have been adopted by churches. Community Outreach Ministry (COM) is fully in support of this movement and is encouraging every UMC to challenge its members to adopt the street where they live and commit to pray for 20 neighbors. Additionally, COM is challenging every UMC to adopt at least 1 school as a partner to support.

This movement is producing great results in reducing crime in our streets and is preparing the way for large multitudes of people to come to salvation in our neighborhoods and region!
