This Week’s Storyteller is…
Candy Ogden, First Clermont
I have been blessed to serve the FUMC Clermont on staff for 30 years. As a young adult I knew I was called to work in the local church. I had great examples of servants in the church from my parents to Sunday School teachers.
The God part of my 30-year journey is that I never actually applied for any of the jobs I have held at the church. God placed every opportunity before me, and I knew without a doubt he was calling me to serve each time and in each position along the way. From preschool teacher to director of the preschool to youth director to office and facilities manager to children's and adult program director to my last position as director of adult discipleship. I never applied....I was called literally and figuratively by the church and my God. I am now called by God to retire from full time staff church work and to serve my God and church as a servant volunteer.
I know this sounds crazy, but I truly feel the real ministers of the church are the volunteers. So now I am looking forward to another 30 years of ministry as a servant volunteer. To work in the ranks of those who truly are "the local church" at its best! The hope of the world is the local church, and those who serve within it and in the world. I am looking forward to the next great adventure God is calling me to! Serving my church as a volunteer!
